Why Is Fluoride Treatment Important
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is usually added to tap water supplies for its oral benefits. It fuses with the tooth enamel to strengthen its structure and increase its resistance against dental cavities.
Professional application of fluoride offers long-lasting results compared to store-bought products. For this reason, our facility offers fluoride treatments and silver diamine fluoride for patients of all ages.
We particularly recommend this treatment for children since they have weaker enamel and are more prone to developing tooth cavities.
Silver diamine fluoride combines the antimicrobial power of silver with the strength of fluoride. This treatment is also very beneficial for children or senior adults who have active carious lesions or are at high risk of dental caries.
Benefits of Fluoride Treatments and Silver Diamine Fluoride
Fluoride treatments are an essential part of our preventive dental care. They offer many long-term benefits, which include:
- Strengthen tooth enamel: Fluoride ions incorporate with the enamel, giving it extra strength and protection.
- Prevent cavities: This treatment significantly reduces the risk of cavities, especially among children.
- Kill cavity-causing bacteria: The application of silver diamine fluoride provides antimicrobial action, reducing the number of cavity-causing bacteria.
- Decrease tooth sensitivity: Fluoride promotes the remineralization of the enamel, which helps reduce sensitivity to a certain extent.
- Long-term protection: This treatment can offer lasting resistance against cavities and prevent future complications.

What Is the Process of Fluoride Treatment
The process starts with a brief consultation and oral examination. These oral exams are completely pain-free. If it’s your child’s first visit, we will pay extra attention to ensure they receive comfortable care.
We offer fluoride solutions in different mediums, including gels and varnishes, for easier application. Since this procedure is non-invasive and painless, we do not use anesthesia.
However, if your child feels anxious, we will use dental sedation to help them relax during the treatment. We will apply a thin layer of the desired fluoride solution and leave it for a certain duration.
After the recommended time, we will rinse the fluoride solution from the tooth surfaces. In some cases, reapplication may be necessary for maximum effectiveness. For additional protection, our dentist may also suggest the use of fluoride-containing toothpastes or mouthwashes.
