Soft Tissue Grafting
If your gums have receded or are uneven, our skilled dentists may recommend a soft tissue graft to correct the problem and improve the appearance and health of your gums. Also known as gum grafting or gingival grafting, this procedure helps restore gum tissue to particular areas of your gums.
Soft tissue grafting involves stitching tissue onto areas of the gums. The grafting tissue may be taken from another area of your mouth or from a tissue bank depending on your individual needs and desires. When taken from your mouth, the tissue is typically taken from the roof of the mouth or the surrounding gums. Our dentists may also recommend the use of tissue-stimulating proteins to help encourage your body’s natural healing abilities and give you a quicker recovery time.
Gum recession and other gum-related problems may occur due to a variety of factors, such as periodontal disease or overaggressive brushing. If not treated with a soft tissue graft, gum recession will eventually lead to tooth loss and other dental problems. Soft tissue grafting also improves the appearance of your teeth by evening out your gum line to give you a healthier and more attractive smile.
