Take a good look at your back teeth, also called your molars and premolars. You will notice that they look very different from your other teeth. Those grooves and ridges that you see are called cusps, and their job is to help you chew and grind your food to make it easier for you to swallow and digest. While they do that very well, those cusps also trap food particles and plaque that cause tooth decay. To prevent this problem, call Citrus Smiles at 972-472-8862. One of our team members can schedule you for a visit with our dentists for dental sealants in Murphy and Wylie, Texas.

The process for applying dental sealants is quick and non-invasive. First, the dentists will clean and dry the tooth. Then we may apply a solution that will gently abrade a small amount of your tooth enamel. There is no discomfort involved, and the solution is used to help the sealant adhere to the tooth. Then the sealant, which is a liquid material similar to plastic, is painted on the tooth. Once it has cured, the sealant can last up to ten years. It is important to remember that the sealant is only applied to the biting surfaces of your molars, so you will still need to brush and floss your teeth every day and see our dentists for your regular cleanings and exams.

Dental sealants are most effective the sooner they are applied, so they are usually suggested for children when their permanent teeth come in. But adults who are prone to dental caries, or who want to maintain a cavity-free smile may also benefit from this treatment.
