Your tooth enamel is one of the strongest substances known in nature. But as strong as it is, it can still be compromised by the acids and sugars in your diet, and sugar can also work with the plaque on your teeth to create even more acid. This, of course, leaves your smile vulnerable to tooth decay.

If your tooth enamel shows signs of being compromised, our dentists may suggest changing to a more balanced diet with less sugar and acid, or simply switching to a toothpaste that contains fluoride. But if your problem is more severe, your smile may need a more proactive solution.

  • Fluoride treatments involve applying a gel, varnish or foam directly to the surface of teeth. This treatment is easy and can be done in one visit to our office. However, in some cases, follow-up visits may be required.
  • Silver diamine fluoride is a combination of silver and fluoride. The silver serves as an antimicrobial agent to strengthen the tooth while the fluoride combats tooth decay and prevents future problems. This is an excellent treatment for children who experience problems with cavities and older and special needs patients.

If you use a toothpaste containing fluoride and if your local government fluoridates the water supply, chances are good that you are getting all the fluoride you need. But if you have concerns and would like to meet with our dentists for an evaluation of your smile, call Citrus Smiles at 972-472-8862 today. We will be happy to talk with you about fluoride treatments and silver diamine fluoride in Murphy and Wylie, Texas.
