Who Is Fit For Dental Sedation

Dental sedation involves the use of nitrous oxide gas or medications to relieve anxiety and help you feel comfortable during dental treatments. From kids to adults, nearly everyone feels a little restless before undergoing a dental procedure. Those struggling with dental phobia can find it difficult to get even routine dental checkups.

That’s why our practice offers sedation dentistry as a helpful measure to enhance your treatment experience. We may recommend dental sedation if you have:

  • Dental phobia or anxiety
  • Negative dental experiences in the past
  • Fear of needles
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • Sensitive gag reflex
  • Low pain tolerance

It is also useful for patients who have to undergo complex dental treatments, such as multiple tooth extractions. Our dentists will evaluate your medical history and assess risk factors prior to using any form of dental sedation.

Our family had a great experience at Citrus smiles during our visit with Dr. Aurora and assistant Alana. If you come to this dentist you’ll find a kind bedside manner, and that he’s detailed in his work. Dr. Aurora is very skilled; my teen needed fillings that needed adjustment and he was an active listener and navigated the repair leaving our teen feeling so much better. Alana greeted us upon entering the office and made us feel welcome—she also assisted Dr. Aurora during the process and it went smooth. We recommend you visit the Lucas office and ask for Dr. Aurora and Alana. Thank you both for your outstanding service!

WaLe Family (Lucas, TX)

We needed emergency dental work and they took us at five and worked on my husband. Everyone was really nice and Dr Gupta did a great job. If they hadn’t let us come in I don’t know what we would have done since it was Friday evening of s holiday weekend.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

At our dental facility, we offer three different types of sedation dentistry, each one varying in effectiveness. We will evaluate your oral and medical requirements to determine the right choice for you.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

It is the easiest and most convenient type of dental sedation. Our dentists often recommend it for children who feel nervous or restless before dental procedures. For this technique, we place a nasal mask that allows the inflow of laughing gas (nitrous oxide gas). It takes effect within a few minutes and helps you feel more relaxed. After the procedure, you will be able to recover in a short time.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation involves the use of sedative medications to relieve anxiety and induce a state of relaxation. It is effective for people with mild to moderate dental phobia. Our dentist will prescribe an oral medication that you will have to take some time before your visit. The effect of this technique may last longer, so we suggest bringing someone along to help you return home safely.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is the most potent type that is only reserved for people with severe dental anxiety. We may also use it for patients undergoing long or complex dental treatments. The medication will directly reach your bloodstream through an IV line, taking immediate effect. It may take several hours for the effect of an IV sedative to wear off. So, you will need someone available to drive you back home.
