Dental phobia is a fairly common condition that affects both children and adults, making them feel restless before their dental visits. Our caring and compassionate team at Citrus Smiles, led by  Dr. Aurora, offers a welcoming environment to all our patients to help them feel at ease. To enhance your treatment experience, we also provide nitrous oxide sedation in Murphy, Wylie, Heath and Lucas TX. It is a safe, easy, and effective way that can help you relax during your dental appointments.
How Does Nitrous Oxide Sedation Help
We understand that many children and adults feel afraid or hesitant to go to the dentist because of a bad experience, fear of dental treatments, or other reasons. For this reason, we use effective strategies to ensure that you receive the highest level of oral care.
Using nitrous oxide sedation, we can help you feel at ease before dental treatments. It is easy to administer and takes effect within a few minutes. This technique is particularly helpful for children who feel restless before undergoing a dental procedure.
It is also beneficial for those who have a fear of needles. This way, you can have a comfortable treatment experience and feel more confident before your next appointment.
What Happens During Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Prior to employing any sedative technique, our dentists will take your medical and dental history. Generally, nitrous oxide sedation is safe for both kids and adults, but we will ensure that there are no risk factors. The process is very easy and has an immediate effect.
We will start by placing a small mask over your nose that delivers a monitored dosage of nitrous oxide gas. As you breathe it in, it induces a state of relaxation and helps calm your nerves. You may feel slight tingling in your hands and feet, but it only lasts a short time.
This sedative technique also minimizes pain and discomfort during dental treatments. Once the procedure is complete, we will remove the nasal mask and allow you to recover.
Is It Safe To Drive Back Afterward
The effect of nitrous oxide gas takes a few minutes to wear off completely. After 10 to 15 minutes, you will gain full consciousness. Our dental team will monitor your vital signs to ensure that you are awake and alert to drive back home.
Even though it is safe to drive yourself back, we still recommend bringing someone along, just in case. You will also be able to get back to your routine tasks soon after your appointment.
